IMPORTANT NOTICE – Updated March 1, 2021
We are writing to you today to provide an update on SOAR 2021 given the ongoing situation with COVID-19. The health and safety of our racers and volunteers is of the utmost importance.
As always, we remain committed to delivering a top-notch event for racers, an exciting opportunity for our volunteers and a fundraiser for the Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington. However, given the events of the past year and our current environment, we do not feel we are able to deliver on this commitment and therefore have made the difficult decision to cancel SOAR 2021.
This was not a decision that we came to lightly, but under the circumstances this was the responsible choice. This year has been overwhelming and challenging for a lot of people, including many of us. And while we are all looking for something to look forward to in the future, we must remember that during this time we need to protect those most vulnerable and the mental health and well-being of all racers and volunteers. With that and the uncertainty surrounding what lays ahead with regards to public health measures and potential restrictions into the Spring and Summer of 2021, it makes it an impossibility to plan the safe and successful event we strive for each year. We need to be realistic on what we as volunteers can deliver in the current context of the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, we have made what we believe is the safest and sensible decision. We miss everyone who has made SOAR so amazing over the years and cannot wait for a time when we can all be safely together again.
Like many of us during this unprecedented time, SOAR and the
Children’s Foundation of Guelph and Wellington are concerned about how to best support the most vulnerable in our community. We understand this is a hard time for many of us but if you are able support the Children’s Foundation in any way, please do so. The Children’s Foundation and those they support need our help now more than ever.
